"I was inspired by Emily Mae Smith's 2019 "Brooms with a View" made with oil paint on linen and Edward Hopper's 1895-1899 "Two Studies of a Man's Bust in Profile." I liked the playful nature of both, as well as the high contrast and the circular framing of parts of the pieces. I tried to translate both of these things into my work, using pen on sketch paper. Drawing this I thought a lot about the outlines of the figures and how they would appear compared to the backgrounds." -Stella Namboos
