Luha Ali Naseez: Inspired by "Attic" by Willem de Kooning

Writer's picture: Beacon Art ShowBeacon Art Show

"I drew inspiration from Willem de Kooning's series of painting that culminated to make the piece "attic". I was to the painting firstly because despite its lack of color and abstractness. It was almost as if I could see several pictures within one. I love how clustered the painting was with the mixture of various lines and shapes, It reminded me of the environment win which I feel like I'm in right now, where everything is a bit chaotic no matter where I look. I'm a bit of a messy person, so I felt like I could almost see a bedroom like mine in the painting. So, I decided to draw my own mess of anything and everything in an imaginary room. I used markers and microns for the piece, and avoided sketching anything beforehand to enhance the disorderedness of the piece. Everything seems a bit off as a result, but I ended up really liking how it turned out. It was a lot of fun to not worry about the technicalities of proportions and neatness. I enjoyed making this a lot :)" -Luha Ali Naseez
