"I was inspired by the art from the Whitney Museum, more specifically art by Loyonel Feininger. This work is called "Church on the Cliffs" and was created in 1953. I based my assignment completely on the name of Feiniger's work. The art itself took minutes, however after choosing Feininger's art it took me hours to figure out what I wanted to do with it. But I took the name of the art literally and used my own ideas to create my piece. A church on a cliff, I used charcoal to create my piece and used rough lines as well as shading instead of a clear structure and shape to give it an eerie feeling. After seeing Feininger's work, I felt that it was somewhat unfinished giving it almost a ghostly appearance and I wanted to convey a similar feeling as well." -Farha Yeasmin
