"While in quarantine, I've been doing a lot of self-portraits and I thought photography was an interesting medium that I hadn't tried much of. Sherman's portrait was especially appealing to me because of this strange interplaying of human and surreal. The work also plays with gender roles, and how much of expression is performative. I tried to further push the idea of obscuring facial features by playing with contrast." -Bella Orelowitz
